Motherhood

I was recently sent this movie,
Motherhood, to review. I typically do not post negative reviews, if we don’t like a product we will send it back rather than post something negative, however, I decided to go against our own rules and share my thoughts.
The Good:
What I enjoyed about this movie is watching a NYC resident live her life in a more realistic fashion. Most NYC movies glamorize this city and makes all of us small town people want to see what we are missing! Not in Motherhood!
We get to see perhaps a more realistic, middle-class lifestyle of a New Yorker. Such as trying to find parking, having to move a car 2 times a week for the street sweepers, having to find parking for when a movie is being shot in your neighborhood, having to carry kids and bags up and down several flights of stairs, the crowds, the tourist walking your streets, walking your dog on sidewalks, etc…
After visiting NYC (and falling in love with it) recently I was more fascinated by the residence and how they manage to live in this great city! So, I was fascinated by what I imagine a more realistic viewpoint of living in a large city with a family as shown in Motherhood.
The Bad:
However, what my biggest complaint about this movie is how much she complained about being a mother! She is a mommy blogger like so many of us although finds more time to blog about how she is losing herself because she is a mother. This annoys me horribly. I understand women easily lose themselves in this thankless job but stop complaining!!! Life is too short. Yes, vent a little, share a little, cry a little, but then count your blessings and move on.

So, I didn’t hate this movie but did not love it. It was nice seeing Anthony Edwards, have not seen him since ER!
If you are a mommy blogger you might enjoy this and see a little bit of yourself in this woman, the taking a picture of your child before they even crawl out of bed, stealing minutes a day to blog, wanting to write a little bit more of a meaningful piece but don’t feel you have enough time to create one, etc….

You can get this movie at Amazon.

BC Predicts: March Baby Bargain Forecast

Here are the sales, deals, and coupons to look out for this month. This list is based on previous years’ bargains. While there’s no guarantee that we’ll see these, I find that stores are pretty consistent from year to year.

March brings showers of consignment sales hosted by churches, neighborhoods and other organizations. This is peak consignment sale time, so be sure to check for sales near you in your local paper or at The Bargain Watcher. In Georgia, where I am, for example, there are about 90 consignment sales listed for March. Consignment sales will taper off toward the end of April and start up again around the first of August for fall and winter goods.

What Else…

  • Sell your spring and summer apparel at local kiddie consignment stores. Here are some tips. Find stores near you listed here or here.
  • Look for anniversary/birthday sales or incentives at OnlineShoes.com and Shoes.com. The one at Shoes.com is going on now.
  • Last year Crazy8.com issued a 20% off coupon just after week 1. We saw a 25% off Friends and Family coupon at Crazy8 during the last week of the month.
  • We should see some Phil & Teds stroller deals around mid month.
  • Gap/Old Navy etc.’s 30% off “Give and Get” coupon hit just before mid-month last year. Let’s hope they keep up the tradition!
  • Spring Sale at The Children’s Place. Look for it around week three. it’s a good one.
  • Look for a Spring Sale at Old Navy around week three. We typically see some great deals on baby clothes during this sale.
  • Sales on outdoor play equipment to begin this month. Look for bargains on swings, basketball goals, etc. Toys R Us and other retailers.
  • Easter/Spring sales! Kmart and Sears have their spring sales this month.

Keep an eye out for these sales and deals, readers, and let me know when you see ‘em. And don’t forget to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8!

Envirosax

Enviorsax is a company I just recently discovered and so happy to share with you our readers. You know both Mandy and I are big advocates of bringing your own bag to do your shopping. Did you know that we use approximately 380 billion one time use plastic bags a year? That is more than 1,200 bags per household in the US alone!! Making those bags takes 12 million barrels of oil! I found out all of these facts from the Envirosax web page called Facts About Plastic Bags. Check it out here.

Envirosax kindly sent me the above bag from their organic line to try out. I am just in love with it. It is oh so chic and durable! Best of both worlds! If you haven’t made the switch over to your own grocery bags you will be surprised by how much easier these are to carry and how much more each bag carries than those thin plastic bags. Plus you get the added bonus of knowing you are reducing your own carbon footprint for future generations!

Envirosax
has so many cute designs including their graphic line:

The Kid’s line:

Also Envirosax is giving away a free shower timer with any order containing an Envirosax Graphic Series Pouch to help encourage households to conserve water and energy (for water heating). Over time, widespread use of shower timers will help lower the ecological footprint of communities worldwide.

Bare Escentuals Asks What You’re ReThinking For 2010 Plus Giveaway!CLOSED

THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED. CONGRATULATIONS COMMENTS #82 Debby and #36 fancygrlnancy

I will admit I’m a makeup girl but I do not like it so much that it takes control of my face. I love the natural look. Nothing beats that look or feeling. Less makeup is great to me. A little bit of powder, mascara and I’m ready to go. Oh don’t forget the lip glosses either, which I’m quite addicted to. Do you go bare in public? Without makeup that is! Or must you put on your face no matter where you go? Well, Bare Escentuals is inviting women to shake up that foundation and sound off on topics that are more than just skin-deep with their new campaign, Rethink What Matters.

Rethink What Matters will have a new discussion topic weekly where you can answer questions that can be shared with friends, family and social networks. Let everyone know what your rethinking. And just for doing this you have a chance at winning free Bare Escentual products and goodies. All for answering 5 simple questions! As a matter of fact 500 women every week will win and at the end of March an amazing grand prize of a trip will given away. Check weekly ladies, there will be new topics and prizes to be won. It’s so much fun.

Just one more quick thing before I finish up. If your in Chicago, San Francisco, or New York City you have to look for the quicky van which will be hitting the streets. The van, branded with taglines like “Rethink Going Bare In Public,” pops up into a mini boutique complete with a team offering make-unders, shade matching services and deluxe samples of bareMinerals 100% Natural Lipgloss, RareMinerals Purely Nourishing Moisturizer, bareMinerals Hydrating Mineral Veil, and other complexion products. So make sure your following @BareEscentuals on twitter to find out where it’s at!

So this weeks question is “Rethink What A Revolution Feels Like” One of the questions was are you a leader or a follower? Well, I’m such a leader when it comes to new products. I want to be the first to know about the new makeup, cereal, shampoos, just about anything. To share with the world especially those close to me. So I’m definitely a leader!

Lauren Elise Designs GIVEAWAY

I have a talented Etsy artist to introduce to you! Lauren Elise is the artist behind these necklaces. I just love them! You can visit her at her Etsy page, Facebook page or her blog. Lauren Elise also makes the earrings and bracelets too.

Here are a few of my favorite pieces: The Alexis Set is a double “delicate” chain with matching earrings. I can imagine wearing this with a plain sweater or a dress!

The Bella Necklace you see above can come in different various color combinations. I actually love the blue and greens that are above.

I received the Tayla necklace you see above. I thought it was different and not like anything I own and I love it! I like the double chain and how it comes together in front rather than the back of one’s neck. It’s a piece that people notice. It is fun to add to the ordinary outfit just to spice it up a bit.

Love it!
To Win:
Lauren Elise is offering one of readers a $25 gift card! Just go to her Etsy shop and tell us which piece you love and you maybe the winner!

This giveaway ends on 3/4/10
