Making your cashier your ally

I just came back from my weekly run of going to Rite Aid and Walgreens. While I was at Rite Aid my local cashier smiled when I walked in and said HI we were just talking about you. (this is how know you probably are in this store too often ;) Anyhow I said really? Me? She said yeah we had another couponer in here earlier and she was just so hateful because we wouldn’t accept her coupon for over the amount of the product. Rite Aid coupon policy clearly states they will only take items for face value no overage on coupons. I told her oh man that’s no good. She said yeah well when she left we were wondering why other couponers couldn’t be as friendly as you? Wow let me tell you not only did this statement totally make my day but made some interesting ponderings for those of us looking to save money by couponing.

If you are like me you generally go into the same store every week e.i. you have your favorite or some of you only have one Walgreens in your area or Rite Aid or what have you. My point is you run into the same cashiers every week. Over time you are going to develop a relationship with these cashiers. I have found it is so much easier to be friendly as these are the people that will become your allies and want you to find the best deals and help you save money. If you come across a time where you really think you should be getting that toothbrush for $2 but that cashier is absolutely not taking that coupon. I find it is best to just let that one go there is no reason to loose your favorite cashier over a toothbrush.

So I am going to encourage each of you this week to do something nice for your favorite cashier…save her your diaper coupons if she has a baby, if you change your mind on an item offer to put it back yourself, or simply just smile you would be surprised how this can change someones day around!
